About

Welcome back to Skid Row!

The fire escape is still hanging on, the rent is still overdue, and somehow the neighbours have gotten even more unhinged.

From the creative minds of Niall O’Flaherty-Lynch and Mark O’Donnell, the duo behind Belfast’s newest musical theatre residency, comes another night of live music, questionable life choices, and absolutely no backing tracks. At Skid Row, the spotlight belongs to you. Armed with nothing but a song, a microphone, and our fearless live pianist, you’ll find yourself centre stage before you know it.

Forget the backing tracks. Forget the safety net. This is musical theatre at its most raw, spontaneous, and joyful. Whether you’re a seasoned performer, a drama school graduate, a shower singer, or someone who’s always wanted to give it a go, there’s a place for you in our neighbourhood.

THIS QUARTER’S THEME: VILLAINS

Every apartment block has one.

The neighbour who never sleeps. The one who knows everyone’s secrets. The one plotting something behind a suspiciously dramatic curtain.

This time we’re celebrating the rogues, scoundrels, schemers, monsters and misunderstood icons of musical theatre. Whether you’re serving full-on diva villainy, plotting revenge, making questionable deals, or embracing your theatrical dark side, this is your chance to let the bad guys take centre stage.

From the depths of the ocean to the heights of the savannah, from Parisian cathedrals to mysterious opera houses, Skid Row has opened its doors to every villain in town.

The heroes have had their turn.

Tonight belongs to the villains.

YOUR HOST FOR THE EVENING

Leading us into the darkness this quarter is the one and only Karl McGuckin.

A familiar face across Northern Ireland’s theatre and music scene, Karl is known for his powerhouse vocals, quick wit, and ability to command a room whether he’s on a concert stage, in a musical, or behind a microphone. A classical crossover baritone with a deep love of musical theatre, he has built a reputation for bringing equal parts charm, mischief, and theatrical flair to every performance.

Whether you’re taking to the spotlight yourself or simply watching the chaos unfold from the audience, Karl is the perfect guide for a night dedicated to musical theatre’s most iconic villains.

Expect big laughs, big voices, and the occasional descent into madness. Exactly what Skid Row was built for.

HOW TO JOIN THE CAST

Got a villain song you’ve always wanted to perform?

We’ll have a selection of scores available on the night for spontaneous performers, but the residents of Skid Row rarely wait for permission. If you’ve got something planned, we’d strongly encourage signing up in advance so our pianist can be ready for whatever wickedness you’re bringing to the stage.

Whether you’re plotting revenge, striking a bargain, or stealing the spotlight, we want to hear it.

THE ARTWORK

We’re delighted to welcome back the brilliant Jamie Baird, whose artwork has once again captured the strange, magical world of Skid Row. This quarter’s illustration is packed with some of musical theatre’s most iconic villains, all lurking around the neighbourhood and gathering around the glowing heart of our little community.

The more you look, the more familiar faces you’ll spot.

A huge thank you to Jamie for bringing our latest chapter to life.

This is a 18+ event.
